Random Quote Remember: Writing can get you fed to a lion whose teeth draw your whole face into its foul wet breath and cut your skull with knives. There's no soft way to put this. A black hole swallows you up. Willpower's no help. Getting in print is like beating cancer but losing a lung, staying in print is hopeless. Your best work goes begging.....Today's paragraph comes, a word from the heart of the universe, and shines in the darkness, unquenched. And you ask for power, wisdom, and love as you make the anvil sing. -- Donald Newlove

If there is an atom to relationships, I think it's this: Expressed belief in the other person. Whether it's friendships, couples, or family ties, the one thing most attractive and ensuring of longevity is, after a lot of consideration, expressed belief. |

I think this is true, although I've usually reduced it down to expressions of respect and sincere appreciation. The research and surveys supporting this idea in various ways usually use these terms as well. Interestingly, in that research, these things tend to show up higher in the hierarchy of needs for men than women, so I usually include that in my evaluation of cultural trends and consequences. |
