Random Quote Keep going. Writing is finally play, and there's no reason why you should get paid for playing. If you're a real writer, you'll write no matter what. -- Irwin Shaw

Jacob and I went for a long walk this morning. I took a bunch of pictures... here are a few... At one point, Jacob shouts to me, "Dad! Did you see that dog in the car?" I turned in the direction of the sedan, but couldn't see anyone inside. "No, Cub. What kind of dog was it?" He looks up at me and cocks his head and an eyebrow. "Don't you know?" "Um, no. I didn't see the dog..." He sighs and shakes his head. "Dad," he explains, waving his arms to enunciate his point. "All dogs are CANINE." Of course they are :) |

Wow! You lucky Iowans are already in full-bloom Spring weather. Those flowers are so pretty. In my neck of the woods, the last of the snow finally disappeared today with the inch of rain we had. Everything looks so dirty and bleak, unlike the wonderful pictures you've shared with us. Thank you! You've showed me to not despair, Spring really just is around the corner....or should I say across the border. And that son of yours....what an intelligent little person. Didn't you know Dad......? |

Ha! Don't you love it when they zing you like that??? Love the pics, too. And OH MY GOD I have to tell you this. My husband bought me some 140lb paper by accident so I have been fooling around with my daughter's Crayola watercolors and I AM IN LOVE WITH WATERCOLORS. They are so different from oils..like ~other end of the spectrum~ different. They are so FREE and easy to work with, unlike with the oils where if I am having a bad day with them, they are stubborn and difficult. Geez, can you imagine how much I will love them when I get some real paints???? Love it! Love it! Love it!!!!!!! ~L. |

Hey Canadian :) You know, I hear that you folks have an incredibly beautiful summer... and fall too. That leaf change - I hope someday that I can make it to Nova Scotia or Newfoundland for that. Maybe I'll find an excuse to do that - someday. Time will tell, I guess. And you're right - my son teaches me a great many things. In fact, I'm just about to post one of his pictures from today... |

Hey Laura! Your husband rocks for buying you the "wrong" paper. Yep - watercolors are immediate and frankly cheap compared to oils. The hardest thing about them, in my opinion, is learning not to paint the white spaces. Let me give you a couple of tips: 1. Grumbacher. Good paint. 2. Practice washes. 3. Do layers. I'm really looking forward to what you do with these... how cool! |

You're right, our Summers and Fall really are fantastic. I especially love Summers. Going camping with my kids is what I love best about it. |

God, I miss camping. I should go this summer... I haven't been camping in a few years. My biggest problem when camping is poison ivy. I break out in rash just looking at the stuff. Of course, I never learned what it looks like, so I'm doomed to touch it - and look at it too, of course. Have fun with your kids camping! And stay clear of the poison ivy! |
